Flourishes

Postby EgoMagic » Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:49 pm

Flourishes, must of us know about them, but we don't all use them. This has been discussed in countless magic forums before, but I decided to bring up the topic here to maybe spark some discussion. Do you think flourishes should be performed while doing magic? I, for one, don't do them that much, mostly because I'm not that good at them. Most the time I only do them on my own time, not while performing for audiences. Now, even if you disagree with others on this topic, I do not want anyone insulting anybody or their opinions. Anyway, tell me what you think.

It really depends on your audience, the character you are portraying and the type of show you are doing. Personally though, I think that flourishes are fun to look at but I don't give them much past that. I don't practice them myself because I can't even see myself doing them in a performance and I don't have the natural talent some of you guys do to learn and master them quickly.

For this humble magician, I do not use nor practice flourishes and don't really think they have much of a place in magic. There are other things that one can spend their time on that are much more valuable to the performance of magic.
